WHAT IS MYO?

The goal of myofunctional therapy is to achieve proper oral rest posture (tongue on the roof of the mouth behind the two front teeth, teeth slightly parted, lips sealed), consistent breathing through the nose, chewing and swallowing patterns. Myofunctional therapy is a type of physical therapy for the tongue and facial muscles. Improper function can lead to orthodontic issues/poor growth and development, a gag reflex, sleep apnea problems, mouth breathing, and speech impediments.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Initial one hour consultations are generally around $500 and ongoing 30 minute therapy once weekly sessions are approximately $175. The myofunctional therapist will develop treatment goals and daily exercises to be completed by the individual at home. Therapy ranges from 6-12 months depending on the treatment goals.
